Known for his dedication to supporting the arts sector through many roles, Brian Wood will join Footnote New Zealand Dance in January as Managing Director.

Currently Acting Director of New Zealand Portrait Gallery Te Pūkenga Whakaata, Brian brings a rich and varied set of skills and attributes to this position. He has a solid background in arts management and led a team in the presentation of the first Kiingi Tuheitia portrait award. He has curated and developed exhibitions and completed projects in many areas including marketing, fundraising, public programs and events.

Although his career has been primarily in the visual arts sector, Brian is a big believer in contemporary dance and is looking forward to making the transition into the performing arts.

He says: “I have always been very attached to contemporary dance and to Footnote in particular. I’ve seen some memorable performances over the years so I’m thrilled to be offered this role I actually did a little dance on the spot when I got the call to say I had landed the job.

Footnote Dance Trust Board Chairman Frank Freemantle said: “The Footnote Board and team are delighted to have Brian bring his expertise to the business. Brian’s years of arts management experience will be a brilliant addition to the current management team and we are excited to work alongside him to continue Footnote’s legacy of supporting artists and sharing work. contemporary dance in New Zealand communities.

Footnote Dance is based in Cuba Street, Wellington.
