Love Island’s Mary Bedford shares hairstyle tutorial that brought her to the main villa

The Love Island girls have seriously stepped up their hair and makeup game this year, but no one more than Casa Amor newbie Mary Bedford, whose signature ’90s hairstyle wowed Twitter users.

The 22-year-old loves to experiment with her hair, but prefers a smooth, half-up style – a look she wore when she was brought back to the main villa by former flame Toby Aromolaran.

Fans of the series have raved about her ’90s-inspired trademark, with many flocking to social media to shower her with compliments.

Mary donned the ’90s-inspired hairstyle throughout her time on Love Island

“My God Mary knows how to straighten her hair right, absolute babe,” comments one Twitter user, while another notes: “Mary’s hair is so cute omg.”

The star has showcased her look several times in the villa and judging by her social media snaps she has been doing her hair this way for quite some time.

But how exactly does she do it, we hear you ask? Well, luckily for us, a pre-prepared tutorial just appeared on her Instagram pages – Mary must have guessed it was going to be popular! Best of all, it’s surprisingly easy to copy.

All it takes is a trimming clip, a thin ball, a teasing brush and a clear styling gel like Styling gel from Giovanni LA Natural, of £ 2.49 here.

This inexpensive gel would work perfectly for this style

If gel products just aren’t your bag, we highly recommend Ouai Haircare matte ointment, £ 16 here – a cult product created by Kardashian hairdresser Jen Atkin to provide an elegant matte finish to the hair.

First, Mary cuts the front two strands of her hair and holds them in place with an unbranded grip, before pulling the top of her hair firmly into a ponytail.

“And then with the brush and the gel, start smoothing it out,” Mary told fans.

“Repeat until all the hair is straight,” she adds. “Bring the brush down and round it to keep the parting in the middle.”

Then pull the product through the hair using a teasing brush

Once completely smoothed out, Mary takes a pom pom and knots her ponytail in place, making sure any flyaways are glued together by applying gel to her fingers and straightening the hair.

To complete the look, the Islander pulls down her front sections and runs through them with her straighteners for a crisp finish.

The end result looks stunning

After last night’s dramatic recoupling, Mary became the last daughter of Casa Amor to continue in the Love Island villa, after her co-stars Clarisse Juliettè and Amy Day were sent home.

We don’t know about you, but we’re happy to see Mary kill another day and can’t wait to see what hairstyle she presents next.
