Kevin Clifton’s father publishes first children’s book of dance-themed stories

The father of former Strictly pros Kevin and Joanne Clifton has released his first children’s book based on what his family is best known for.

Keith Clifton, from Grimsby, has written a 170-page book called ‘The Dancing Scarecrow & Other Stories’ for children.

The book is a collection of short stories where you will meet sea and land characters, parents who are afraid of spiders, a chicken that has stolen and a turtle with hair.

The essence of each story is a reminder that if you can believe in something, you can achieve it by being kind and having good friends around you.

Keith, the proud father of Strictly Come Dancing winner Kevin and professional dancer Joanne, says he’s absolutely thrilled to publish the book.

He told Grimsby Live: “My daughter Joanne was working with an agency funded by the local council during lockdown for children taking free dance lessons in Grimsby.

“She said 45 minutes was a lot for kids, so she asked me to write some stories for kids to break down the sessions.

“So I started writing some stories about my imagination and my years working with children at Clifton Dance Academy.

“They did well with the kids. I then had people around me suggesting that I get something published, so I thought why not.”

Keith then says he went the self-publishing route with Kirmington-based Partnership Publishing, and he says they’ve been “brilliant”.

He told Grimsby Live: “We’ve finally released it and you can buy it through Waterstones and Amazon. It’s been a great trip out of lockdown.

“Partnership Publishing has been absolutely brilliant with me.

“If you buy the book, you can expect 10 really funny stories for kids aged 5-14 and even parents have enjoyed reading them. We’ve had wonderful feedback so far.

“Parents and kids love the stories because the characters are quirky, funny, and have issues and morals to overcome. I just hope they can enjoy it.”

He even got a celebrity endorsement from Ore Oduba who said Keith’s book was “warm, imaginative and very funny”.

Ore won Strictly Come Dancing with Keith’s daughter Joanne in 2016.

Her son, Kevin Clifton, won the pageant in 2018 with Stacey Dooley, who is now his girlfriend.

Keith said: “Ore has had a few kids and Joanne is still in contact with Ore. We love chatting with him and I told him about the book coming out and he said ‘I want to read it, I have to read it now’ .

Keith Clifton, father of Strictly Come Dancing’s Kevin, has released his first children’s book ‘The Dancing Scarecrow & Other Stories’.

“He told me he loved it and would be happy to write an endorsement about it and I was happy about it.”

Keith says he wrote his children’s book at the request of his former daughter Strictly Come Dancing.

He said: “I was inspired to write by my daughter Joanne. I guess everyone believes they have a book in themselves, whether it’s writing their own story or a fictional story about something. thing in his life.

“Everyone has stories that you embody in written form and you have to get down to writing them and putting them into a written context for others to rejoice.

“I have over 30 years of working with children at Clifton’s Dance Academy and I feel like I understand how to entertain them and what weird things they like.”

Keith says he has already been asked to go to schools in North East Lincolnshire to read and discuss some of the book’s issues.

He also hopes to go to St Andrew’s Hospice for a reading. Keith says a book signing is underway in hopes his books will be available at Grimsby’s Waterstones store.

And there are many more ideas in the imagination bank if the book is a success, says Keith.

“Oh yes, there is more available and more to come. There is more than what I wrote in the book.

“I draw inspiration from the adults and children I meet at the Academy. Ideas flow through my weird and wonderful brain all the time.

“I would welcome the opportunity to write another with Partnership Publishing. It all depends on the success of The Dancing Scarecrow and Other Stories,” said Keith,

You can buy the book from Waterstones here for £7.99 or on Amazon.
