Hoffman Stars Dance Company Shines Bright in Regional Competition

Hoffman Estates Park District’s, Hoffman Stars Dance Company, won multiple awards on February 26-27, 2022, at the UPROAR Regional Dance Competition in Batavia, Illinois.

“Our dancers and teachers have worked very hard to prepare for this competition. It takes a lot of practice, time and dedication to be ready for competition, but they rose to the challenge,” said Jessica Karbowski, dance coordinator at the Hoffman Estates Park District.

Winners of the solo competition included Sophia Berichon – Gold – 2nd overall and Briana Dawson – Gold – 1st overall. Duo competition winners Kylie Hopkins and Ashley SanMiguel – Gold – took 1st place overall in the junior category. Andrea Alvia and Cailin Hopkins competed as a duo – Gold – 2nd overall. Eva Moiseeva and Jasmine Reyes also performed a duet – Or – 1st overall in the teen category. Dancers Emma Scholl, Lily Shure and Jillian Simon competed in Tap Trio – Gold – 2nd overall.

The Hoffman Stars Dance Company also entered three companies into the small group competition. Company 1, 8 years old and under, won 2nd place overall – Gold – for its classical dance and 3rd place overall – Gold – for its modern dance, in the mini category. Company 1 dancers include Kylie Berichon, Cora Fox, Miranda Montes, Sahasra Pinnamaneni and Hailey Schroeder.

Company 2, Kylie Hopkins, Ashley SanMiguel, Emma Scholl, Lily Shure and Jillian Simon, ages 9-11, won 1st Overall: Gold – for their Jazz Dance and 3rd Overall – Gold – for their classical dance.

Competing in the 12-14 age group, Company 3 won 1st place overall – Platinum – for its Lyrical Dance and 3rd – Gold – for its Classical Dance. This dance competition was aimed at beginners to experienced dancers. Hoffman Stars Dance Company competed at the novice level which requires at least five hours of dance practice or rehearsal each week.

Company teacher Wendy Shure said, “Our girls’ camaraderie, combined with their dedication and love for dance, made them all shine on stage.”

Karbowski added: “Half of the dancers in our company are new this year and all have worked very hard for these competitions. It was a pleasure choreographing dances with Wendy Shure for the dancers. I can’t wait to see the girls compete. in our next two competitions.”

Hoffman Estates Park District offers dance lessons for adults ages 3 and dance competitions for ages 5-18. Trials for the 2022-23 season of the Hoffman Stars Dance Company will take place in June 2022 at the Triphahn Center and Ice Arena, Hoffman Estates.
