African, salsa and belly dancing classes unite women of all cultures in Carlisle
DANCE styles from all corners of the world are coming to Carlisle following a successful £ 10,000 fundraising offer.
The Dance Carousel project is kicking off this week at the city’s iCan Fitness Center in Denton Holme.
Multicultural Cumbria is behind the initiative, which is aimed primarily at women of BAME origin (black, Asian and ethnic minority), to help break down barriers to fitness.
For six weeks, you will have the opportunity to try out different styles of dance including African dance, salsa, Latin fusion, flamenco, and Egyptian belly dancing.
Multicultural Cumbria has teamed up with iCan, which has just created a new dance studio space.
The project is also supported by the This Girl Can initiative, which encourages more women to be active, have fun and lead healthy lives.
The sessions are aimed at women and girls from 14 years old.
Priority will be given to people from BAME, but they will also be open to other women.
Free child care will be available for those who need it, making the sessions accessible to those who do not exercise due to family commitments.
Multicultural Cumbria has received just under £ 10,000 in funding from the National Lottery to carry out the Dance Carousel project.
Tina Borgia, from multicultural Cumbria, leads it, with expert dancers showing off different styles.
She said: âI am delighted to be able to propose this exciting project. It was created after talking to women from black, Asian and ethnic minorities who told me they did not feel able to access exercise due to cultural modesty and either a lack of support network, such as having dependent family members. their children, or because of financial constraints.
âWe want everyone to experience our amazing and talented dancers. It’s gonna be so much fun.
Saj Ghafoor, Managing Director of Multicultural Cumbria, thanked the National Lottery and its players.
Dance Carousel starts tomorrow, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at iCan. Classes cost £ 2 each. To reserve a space, contact Tina on 07925 054439 or email [email protected]
